Kilimanjaro journal entry:
June 6, 1993
“We are
nearing the summit. Our bodies are exhausted, and it is
freezing in this stone building at the base of a slope covered with
huge boulders. We will climb over the rock and snow tomorrow,
in our attempt to summit. Our guide just came in and asked us for
aspirin. He has an altitude headache and he is not sure if he
can climb tomorrow. I think he wants us to quit so he won’t
have to continue. We didn’t come this far to stop now.
He said to set our alarm so that we could leave in the dark.
We will walk the first several hours using headlamps to find the
way.”
