Mt. Vinson journal entry:

“This entire trip has been a drain on my body as well as my
mind. Speaking of glamour…my face, hands, and feet are
swollen, my eyes are bloodshot and puffy, my hair is greasy
after three weeks of wearing a hat 24/7, my skin is red from
sunburn, windburn and frostnip, I have blisters on my toes,
my fingertips are cracked, numb and bleeding, my lips and
nose have blistered and peeled, and my shins are sore.
I want to explain to people that this is NOT my best look,
and that I prefer heels to hiking boots and dresses to
long-johns. When did this girly girl become such a tomboy?
Funny thing is, I fit right in around here. It brings a
smile to my face to share stories of mountain climbing
adventures, and yet feel so ordinary in the company of
others who are doing the same thing. My goal does not
seem weird to them at all. Guess we are all just living our
dreams.” |
