Denali journal entry:
May 21, 2006
Low temp. -20F
"We follow the knife ridge, just wide
enough for a boot stride, with thousands of feet dropping off on
each side. We again hook our ropes to a fixed line, bolted into the
ice and snow. Tonight, as I got into my sleeping bag to write, I
felt something gooey. My energy gel exploded all over my gear and
everything is pink and sticky. It will freeze soon and I will shake
it off. For now I have my boots, clothes, food, camera, and water
inside the bag with me, so they will keep from freezing." |
