Dad and I hike 20 miles from Base Camp back to the entrance of the park.  We are tired, dirty, blistered and happy to be finished.

Aconcagua journal entry:
Jan. 3, 2000

“The mules were loaded for the final trudge down the mountain. They carried most of our gear back to the entrance of the park.  The 35 year old woman who died in her tent was now in a black body bag, strapped over the back of a mule. Seventeen deaths on the mountain so far, this climbing season. We hiked 20 miles back through the hot, dusty, high mountain desert. Dad set a fast pace and even after 12 hours of walking, beat all of the 'youngsters' back to the ranger station.”
